About Karen Moss
I've been doing web production since 1994. Back in those days, we didn't have fancy-schmancy WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editors like Dreamweaver and FrontPage. We had to code by hand in Notepad. And we liked it!
Before the web, my background was in traditional print marketing collateral production — copywriting, advertising/PR and publishing. Those who have lived in the Tri-Valley might remember a publication called "The Nooner". No, it wasn't THAT kind of publication. It was about restaurants and other clean recreation in the Tri-Valley. But the name got your attention, huh? I also freelanced for Diablo Magazine in the early '90s.
I made the transition from traditional publishing to online while I was a Communication Specialist for Maxis, the SimCity folks. I was working on the company newsletters when my manager wanted me to look into something called the Internet to evangelize their offline promotions. In collaboration with Customer Support, IT, and Production, we launched Maxis' web site in May 1995.
After Maxis, I went on to develop and redeign web sites for top Bay Area companies such as Electronic Arts, Netscape/AOL, and PeopleSoft. Soon after the birth of my daughter, Sara, I started Moss Web Productions in 2003, and have developed sites for businesses in the Delta area and beyond.
